THE SCRIPTURES
We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God, as inerrant in the original writings; and as the supreme and final authority in faith and life. II Timothy 3:16, 17; II Peter 1:21
GOD
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. John 14:16; Matthew 28:19
JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, was born of the Virgin Mary, and is fully God and fully Man, and is the only mediator between God and man. Matthew 1:18-25; I Timothy 2:5; John 1:1-14
We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate. Matthew 28; Hebrews 4:14; I John 2:1
MAN
We believe that man was created in the image of God; that man sinned and thereby incurred physical and spiritual death, the latter being separation from God. Romans 6:23; Genesis 1:27; Genesis 3
SALVATION
We believe in the voluntary death of the Lord Jesus as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood. I Peter 1:18 -19; Revelation 1:5
We believe that all who receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, are born again of the Holy Spirit, and thereby become the children of God. All such are indwelled by the Holy Spirit, and baptized by that Spirit into Christ’s spiritual body of the Church, of which Christ is the Head. I Corinthians 12:12-13; John 3:3-7; Ephesians 5:19-23
We believe in the eternal security of all those who trust in our Lord Jesus Christ and are truly born again. John 3:16; John 10:28-29; Romans 8:35-39
BAPTISM and LORD’S SUPPER
We believe baptism is immersion of a believer in water, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. This act is the initiation rite into this local body of believers and pictures the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Matthew 28:19, 20; Romans 6:3
We believe the Lord’s Supper is a commemoration of the Lord’s death until He comes. I Corinthians 11:20-34
LAST THINGS
We believe in the Blessed Hope, the coming of the Lord Jesus to meet the resurrected and translated saints in the air. We believe that this event, called the Rapture, will be followed by the Great Tribulation culminating in the Revelation of Jesus Christ at His coming with His saints. He will establish His literal millennial reign upon the throne of His Father David, after which time His Saints will be forever gathered together with Him in the new heaven and new earth for eternity. The lost shall be judged at the Great White Throne Judgment and be cast into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone.
John 5:29; II Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 20:10-15; Isaiah 2:4; Matthew 16:27, 19:2, 24:27, 30, 44, 25:31-46, 26:64
THE FAMILY
We believe God designed the family as the foundation of human society. Marriage is the lifelong covenant union of one man and one woman, reflecting the relationship between Christ and His church (Ephesians 5:22–6:4). Within this union, God provides companionship, the proper context for sexual expression according to Scripture, and the blessing of raising children.
Children are a gift from the Lord from the moment of conception, and parents are called to raise them according to God’s design.
We believe God created two genders, male and female, as part of His good design.
We also believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who turn to Him through Jesus Christ. Every person is to be treated with compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity, and hateful or harassing behavior toward any individual is not consistent with Scripture or the teachings of Calvary Baptist Church.
Genesis 1:26-28, 2:15-25; Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Proverbs 5:15-20, 6:20-22, 13:24, 22:6,15; Malachi 2:14-16; Matthew 5:31-32, 18:2-5, 19:3-9; Mark 10:6-12; Romans 1:18-32; I Corinthians 7:1-16; Ephesians 5:21-33, 6:1-4; I Timothy 5:14; Hebrews 13:4; I Peter 3:1-7
THE CHURCH
We believe that a local church is a self-governing body, and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority. Therefore, Church and State must be kept separate as having different functions, each fulfilling its duties free from the dictates or patronage of the other. Acts 6:3-6, 4:19-20, 13:2-4, 15:2
INDIVIDUAL SOUL LIBERTY
We believe that every human being is directly responsible to God in matters of faith and life, and that each should be free to worship God according to the dictates of his or her conscience.
Romans chapter 14; 1 Corinthians chapter 8; 1 Corinthians 10:23-33.
